I did it! I conquered my 2nd 26.2 Miles!

This weekend was a whirlwind blast. I can’t believe that I conquered another 26.2 miles. After my first marathon 2 years ago, I made it to 20 miles and cursing every step after that. I was thinking, WHAT IN THE WORLD DID I GET MYSELF INTO. I’m so not doing this again. HAHA. Well we all know to never say never.

Earlier this year, I signed up for the TCS NYC Marathon lottery. I was one of the lucky few to get in. And again, I thought, What in the world did I get myself into. But then again NYC Marathon is a HUGE race. I had plenty of time to train and get in the right mental attitude. And boy did this marathon creep up on me before I knew it.

I trained, I got lazy, I got back in my running shoes, and started training again. I ended up feeling less than confident in myself and had to keep reminding myself that I will be ok. My longest run was 17 miles. I wanted to finish between 5-6 hours. I didn’t know what was going to happen to be honest. There was lots of wishful thinking and hoping that I would be just fine. I’m not out there to win the race or break any records. I am out there to enjoy the crowd and have fun with it.

I finished the race (I’ll have a race recap in a few days). I got my medal! I got my NYC Marathon Medal! It was a fantastic experience! Now to rest, get through next week and then start working towards the next goal. I placed my medal up on my special medal rack last night and it was a glorious moment. A sense of accomplishment.

Do you ever…

Do you ever feel that everything is just imploding and nothing seems to be going the way you want. GAH. Let me get you caught up….

The end of July was our yearly family vacation to the most gorgeous place on earth. No, not Disney, that’s the happiest place on earth. 🙂 My mom, sister and I make the trek to Cape Cod every year and have since I was young so it’s like going home almost. So we started out way. My mom and I drove up…we started at 3am and did fine until we needed to get onto the Cape. And if any of you know, that can be a nightmare. This time it was a nightmare. But we had several funny moments happen while we were trying to make our way. I mean, have you ever seen a cars hood pop up while someone was driving and they kept driving the vehicle…no?…me either until this trip. HAHA.

My sister was flying in and so she got there later. We had a good time and the next morning started out on our long runs that we had to get done. Mine was 9 miles and hers was 14. She was nice though and hung with me for the first 4 miles and then she took off…literally took off. She’s so much faster than me and so I more like jog and walk when I can, ok more like want. But we couldn’t go out on our long run and not take a selfie at the beach. So we finished our run and then we walked around town, did some shopping and then just relaxed the rest of the day.

I flew home early so I could go back to work. (Anyone else feel like work gets in the way of all the fun? No, just me.  Ok. :)) It was nice to have a few days and just relax and read all day if you want, or take naps. Naps are my favorite.

So I get home and start to get back into a routine before I start house sitting/dog sitting. I love that I’m able to do this so that others can have peace on their vacation. Or somewhat peace with some accidents. Meanwhile we found out that my grandmother had passed. She lived a full life of 97 years and still in her own home. So we’ve been planning her service and coordinating travel with everyone and who is staying where and when are they getting in. Things like that. Sounds like fun right?

So needless to say, I’ve had a few things going on lately. Just a few. I missed my 10 mile run this past weekend. My foot was feeling funky and I needed to get it feeling ok so I didn’t derail my training for the marathon. I’ll get back on track this week and should be good to go. My long runs are definitely getting longer and the feeling of training for a marathon is becoming more real.

Weekend Activities

Good Morning!

It was a crazy weekend! I had an eye appointment on Saturday to see if I was a good candidate for Lasik. Which I found out I was. I have a strange prescription where I only need 1 contact because the other eye is 20/20. The techs that I saw were amazed that it’s aways been that way and never really an issue. But then I went and helped M move into her new home. I’m so excited for her. It’s a great house and I can’t wait to hear more stories from moving and setting things up. Afterwards I went back to my Mom’s house and helped her get the patio set up and we started a fire in the fire pit. We then made turkey burgers on the grate that came with the fire pit. Yum-o!

Sunday, was church and then I went on my run. It was a hot, and slow 4.61 miles. Not so much fun. Plus seeing a snake on the trail. GROSS! No thanks! I waited a good lots of feet away for him to slither off the trail before I continued my run. I got home and made breakfast and got to eat on my balcony and then hung up my medal hanger! I have only lived in my condo for a year and I kept forgetting to get the drill from my moms house. Anyways, I was able to get my medal rack up and so that’s for my special medals. My RunDisney medals and my 1 and only Marathon medal. When I finish the NYC Marathon, I’ll hang that one there too. I have a different medal hanger for everything else and my bibs so they aren’t left behind. My sister leaves this week for her big trip so we ate with my mom at her house and had turkey burgers on the fire pit grill. So it was good. I squeezed in a nap during the afternoon and then fell asleep super early. It was a good day.

This week is going to be good, but crazy. I need to stay on track with my mileage and then will be good to go and continue the climb up the mileage mountain. I was a little low on mileage during April with only 39.94 miles and then for the year I have 128.58 miles. Not too shabby but still needs some help. 🙂

Throwback Thursday…Way back to 1941

This isn’t running related but definitely family related. I was visiting my grandmother this past weekend. She’s a young 96 years. Still living in her own house and able to move without major issues. The last time I was able to visit was back at Christmas when we went up to visit for the day.

But while I was walking around I found this gem of a picture.

I took a picture of it with my iPhone so it’s not the best quality but I showed my grandmother later and she could remember everyone in this picture. Pretty good for a 96 year young lady. I never got to meet my grandfather but I have heard numerous stories and how remarkable he was. His best man was his dad and so that is the older man in this picture. My grandmother was born in 1918 which would have put her at 23 years young. She couldn’t stop smiling when she was looking at the picture. Good Memories. I hope to hang this picture up in my house one day.
