This Just happened….

Sorry I’ve been slacking on the posts. It’s been a crazy week. Getting back from my second half in 8 days 🙂 So I started looking into a few things. I’d been seeing these “Half Fanatics” on Instagram and a number after it. So I did a little research and there are definitely some crazy folks out there. http://www.halffanatics.com is the website. And the lowest to qualify and be considered a Half Fanatic is 2 half marathons in 16 days. 😳 I started thinking (this can be dangerous) that I totally just did that. So I’ve been sitting on this knowledge. I would visit the page every so often, more like every day, wondering if I was crazy enough to join this group. Well last night I bit the bullet and signed up. I’m at the Neptune level and I’m now a Half Fanatic.

I never imagined that when I started running this is where my journey would take me. I never thought that I would run in and finish 2 half marathons in just over a week. Let alone  run a marathon and complete a triathlon and training for my second marathon. I proud of myself for being on this continued journey. It’s always a great journey even though I curse myself when I’m training and continually ask why I sign up for these events and lotteries and races. It’s the end result and that bling and satisfaction that you just completed the run.

So here’s to the crazies! Come join me 🙂

TGIF!

We made it to Friday! Thank goodness! I have 13.1 miles ahead of me timage1omorrow and it’s going to be in the rain. At least it will be around 50℉ so it shouldn’t be freezing! It’ll be one of those runs. I’ve come close to running in the rain a few times, but this will definitely be a first. My very first race, we were threatened by rain. But it never rained. This time, rain is coming. I guess it will be fun to run in the rain for 13 miles. It will definitely be a race where we can just sit back and have fun. I probably won’t start until close to 8. So I hope to be done by 11 at the latest. Then make the trek back to the metro for the hour ride home. I’ll have to meet up with my BRF since she’ll probably finish way ahead of me. Or at least that’s what I’m thinking. She shouldn’t have any problem finishing in just over 2 hours.

I was talking to my good friend M and she has been a huge help getting me back on the right track with injuries and such. And I was discussing a plan of attack for the race. I will probably be doing a run/walk half marathon. Which means I”ll be running 4 minutes and walking a minute. This should equate to about 9-10 minute miles. So we’ll see how it goes. My fingers are crossed. It shouldn’t be too bad. I’ll definitely be looking forward to those walk breaks. But it will also be a warm up to the following weekend’s 1/2 to see how the run/walk works out for me.

Have a great Friday!

Cheers! ☔️

Rock and Roll DC Half

Today is packet pick up! That’s a good thing but this weekend, it’s suppose to rain on Saturday. Bummer! But running in the rain can be fun right. So I’m hoping that it’s a warm rain. I have the best outfit and I can’t wait to wear it. And yes sparkle is included.  I shared my outfits here. It’s going to be a great day and I can’t wait to wear that medal around my neck. This will be half number 2 for the year with 3 right behind it.

Last year I was sick for this race as I’ve mentioned before. I’ve been doing everything to keep from getting sick this year for the race. I was running with my friend for his first half and around mile 9 I just had to stop and walk. I was doing ok, but I started to feel nausea and so I walked the rest of the race. It was not the best race I’ve ever had nor was it the best post experience. I did ok though. Finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes. It was great to run that race and I only hope that this year will be a better experience. But I also have to remember that the experience is what I make it. 🙂

I hope you all are enjoying this fantastic weather! It’s been such a blessing since it’s been so cold. Maybe spring really is on it’s way.

Cheers! 🌻🌷🌸🌹🌼

Weekend Activities

Good Morning!

I had as my Mom would call it, a lazy weekend. I ran 7 miles on Saturday morning. It was all done on the treadmill. 1 hour and 23 minutes later I was able to get off the treadmill and be ok with the rest of the day. Although I’m still feeling it so my half marathon this weekend will be painful but I should survive just fine.

Saturday evening I went to a vertical wine tasting at a local vineyard. It was so good! It was all based on Merlot and different years. It started with 2001, 2002, 2002 Reserve, 2007, 2009, 2010, and then we had a barrel tasting of the 2014 Merlot. These were all paired with different foods in a 3 course meal. The food was done by a local restaurant that is farm to fork format. Delicious.

Sunday was lazy. Got some cleaning done, and fixed my vacuum after Church. I had sucked up some socks and it caused the self propel mechanism to stop working. Well I fixed it! Go me! Small victory when you are responsible for everything in the house. So I was able to clean up my place. My goal in the next few weeks is to get my dresser moved over from my Mom’s house so that I could keep my clothes organized. I made my food for the week. Lots of soups ready for the week. So I can always freeze that if necessary. YAY.

I’m getting ready for my first half of the month which will be on Saturday and running with my BRF which she will blow me out of the water. I just want to finish.

I hope you all had a good weekend. Enjoy the start to your week!

Snowy Thursday! So let me share my race outfits for March!

I’m lucky today and get to spend my day at home with the snow that is falling outside. My office closing with inclement weather is a rare occasion. So I get to spend my day in the warmth of my own home. Yay me!

image1So with that being said, and with getting into the TCS NYC Marathon still sinking in, I thought I would share my DC Rock and Roll half marathon and my VA Beach Shamrock half marathon outfits! Of course there’s sparkle involved and I can’t wait to run.

Ok, so I haven’t quite decided which race legs I’m going to wear. It’s quite possible I wear one for one race and other set for the other half. The visor, arm warmers, skirt and race legs all came from Sparkle Athletic. Go Team Sparkle! The tank top I got off Etsy from RainDancerClothing. Both shipped very quickly and were here in my hands in plenty of time. It’s going to be so much fun to be wearing these outfits.

I can’t wait to run next weekend in the DC Rock and Roll half marathon with my BRF. I was sick and still ran this race last year. I’m getting sick now (oh no) and i’m trying to beat it before next weekend rolls around. It wasn’t my best half marathon time by any means last year and so this year I just hope to finish faster than I did last year. It’s a great race and a great course. You get to see things in DC that you don’t always see. The race this year will be like interval training and so it will be a different type of race for me and more like a training run. I’m not looking forward to the hill at mile 6 getting off Rock Creek Parkway.  That’s one killer hill!

The following week I’ll be down in VA Beach running the Shamrock Half. Who ever thought that running another 13.1 miles after just finishing one 8 days before was a good idea never told me. That would be my smart planning! HAHA It will be a challenge and one that I’m ready to take on! I’m super excited to be traveling to VA Beach area. I’ve never been down to that city and I’m looking forward to seeing a different part of Virginia. Any suggestions for places to eat? My sister, her boyfriend and one of his friends along with myself are all going down to run. I’m sure I’ll post pictures on Instagram while I’m there and share some here when I get back from the trip. I’m looking forward to another half under my belt.

Here’s to staying warm today! Cheers!

Happy March!

I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday! It is yucky here with sleet, snow and ice. It is going to be a busy month for me with 2 half marathons and a trip to VA Beach. I can’t wait! I hope my feet don’t mind too much and that the plantar fasciitis stays away. I’m going to start lifting more and so I’m hoping that with the cross training I’ll be able to get faster and have a decent 10 miler time in April.

Enjoy your Sunday! I hope it’s been a great start to March for you so far!

February Goals Check In

Hello!

I can’t believe that it’s already the last day of the month! How incredible and it seems like February just started. February was a busy month for me and so therefore the running took a back seat. So March will be for getting back on track and starting to work out again. I only completed 47.4 miles this month.  BOOO!! But yes 47 is better than 0. And 70.52 for 2015 all together! Far from the 1000 that I would like by December 31, 2015.

SO….because of that, and because of March means spring, I’m going to do the 100 mile challenge for March. That averages out to 3.22 miles per day. I have 2 half marathons this month (yes I have a plan for those that I’ll share next week) and some long runs leading up to the 2 halfs, that are 8 days apart.  I even got my outfit put together (I’ll share that too) and it’s probably the first time that I’ve planned an outfit this far out. I’m super excited about it. And yes more sparkle included.

I hope you were able to reach your goals for February, and if not, that’s ok too. Lets hit 100 miles together in March! Who’s with me??

BRF (Best Running Friend)

I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would have a BRF. Best Running Friend. When I first started running, I wasn’t going to run outside and thought I would spend all those miles and hours on the dreaded treadmill. Well that changed and I started running outside. It definitely helped with the change of scenery and everything that went along with it. Well then last summer, while I was training for the Marine Corps Marathon, I got another BRF on the weekends. I had babysat her kids years ago and still do on occasion. I don’t know exactly how it got started, but she said she would run my longer distances with me so that I wasn’t running alone but it also gave us time to chit chat and talk about random stuff.

K and I running together on Saturdays or Sundays then turned into texting each other and signing up for races and discussing which ones we wanted to do next. Which is how we came to the DC Rock n’ Roll half. YAY! I ran this race last year and was sick during the race. I still finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes. My goal this year, is to finish in 2 hours and 39 minutes or faster. I haven’t been able to train like I had hoped. Working 2 jobs does that and limited sleep and on top of all this find this really awesome guy who encourages me to do more and more each day.

I couldn’t ask for a better running friend. She’s awesome! She is faster than me but runs with me and walks if I need to walk. I can’t wait to find more races and have our running dates back. I find out next week if I made it into the NYC marathon and if I did, I’ll have lots of running to do.

On another note, if you are snowed in a cold here’s a picture from my favorite place to run during the summers.

Cape Cod

Hope you have a good Thursday and I hope you find yourself a BRF!
