Welcome to my blog! I’ve been thinking about this for some time and am absolutely scared and excited to share my journey and thoughts here with all of you! So to start, here’s a little bit about me.
I was a competitive swimmer in high school and college and pretty much took that for granted. I was decent and absolutely loved the competitiveness and comrade of the swimming world. From there I went on to coach and still coach to this day. After college, I stopped swimming and just did not do anything at all. No lifting, no running, no swimming…nothing. And as a result, I gained probably 45 pounds. YIKES! I know myself well enough that I wanted to change but did not know how or when to start.
So, in February 2011 I was cruising around the internet and stumbled upon the RunDisney website and saw that they had the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February. It had been 8 years since I’d been down to Disney World and thought that this would be a fantastic time to go and to have a new experience. I can remember this moment so vividly because I turned to my sister H, and said “Hey, lets do this Disney Princess Half Marathon”! Well I got the strangest look back, with a prompt “NO!”. I felt defeated on the inside because I didn’t want to go on this journey by myself. So a few days later, since it was close to the 2011 race, they posted the medals and that is all that was needed to get H to join me in this journey. She just had to have the medal. So we started on the running journey and never looked back. I was injured for the 2012 race but still finished it in less than 3 hours. And still proud of that first medal and first race completed.
Fast forward, 5 half marathons, 1 marathon, and 1 olympic distance triathlon with numerous other 5ks, 10ks, and a few 20ks, and I’m in a place I never thought I would be. I still dislike running, but the bling makes it so much better along with the friends you make along the way.
I’m currently training for 2 half marathons that are 8 days apart and I really need to get back on the wagon. I’ve done some runs, but with my crazy work schedule, I cannot seem to find a good time to get started and keep going. I did take a few months off and that was good, but getting back on the wagon is even worse sometimes. I’ll get there with the help of my good friends and running buddies.
